Your breath reflects your overall state including moment-by-moment changes that correspond to the musicality of your unfolding experience.
Breath is an exchange with the environment. You drink in the world as you breathe in and the world drinks you in as you breathe out.
This drinking in can also be referred to as ingression. Ingression takes place through all of your sensory perception. We’ll focus here on vision.
Just as you drink in your breath, you drink in all that you see. And believe it or not, all that sees you is drinking you in too - the trees, the sky, the cars, the birds. All of it.
So drinking in one color tastes different in your body than drinking in another.
And your eyes know a difference in feeling between seeing straight lines or curves.
Some objects feel more alive when you look at them.
Others less so.
You feel more aliveness in those things which act as mirrors,
reflecting back something that resonates in you.
Above all, it feels so different to drink in a built human environment vs. wilder ones.
Some thoughts on exploring ingression and breathing:
All you need to do to apply this practice is to notice how it feels to drink in with your eyes what you are drinking in for any given situation.
Then notice how the next situation is more or less to your liking in the same respect.
If breath awareness is also part of the experience, it will go deeper into your cells.
Examples of a wilder visual landscape: how different does it feel to drink it in?
